 Thank you to
Catherine (Marie Curie) and Martin (Derby Evening Telegraph) for turning
up on Wednesday night to accept the cheque. I hope to get copies of
the pictures that Martin took - I will post them here when I do.
Roger Darby Memorial Meeting - Sunday 16th February 2003
I would
like to thank all those people who turned up on Sunday and took part in
what was an enjoyable and meaningful race meeting. The purpose of the
meeting was threefold: to remember Roger who was a reliable and active
member of our club; to raise money for the Marie Curie Cancer Charity; and
of course to have a fun day's racing.
I have known Roger since the first day I took my Tamiya Egress down to
the Rolls-Royce hall on Nightingale Road quite a few years ago now. He was
always willing to help anyone in any way he could. I especially Remember
him on team races where he would be happiest helping all the beginners,
making sure that they all had a good night's racing. He will be missed.
The raffle on Sunday was fantastic and had some amazing prizes kindly
donated by the following companies :
Mirage RC Enterprises - Helger
Racing - Schumacher Racing - CML - Ripmax
The Hobby Company - M-Troniks -
Thorntons Chocolates - Allfast
Engineering - Lynx
Injet Printers - AMS - Matt Bridge - C&B
Models Model Car Club (Trophies)
I would also like to thank all those people who donated raffle prizes
and money to the charity.
So how much did we raise?
The raffle raised £198.00.
The hall rental came out of the race fees, but the remaining amount
was donated: £101.00.
The canteen raised £100.00.
So that was £399.00 raised in total. A
big thank you and well done to everyone involved.
We also held a raffle on Wednesday 26th for our club members
where we raised £201.00 including
£50 donated by Mick Marsh, which takes the grand total to exactly
£600.00
On behalf of everybody, I would like to thank Mick Marsh for
doing a superb job of running the raffle. There's no doubt that we
wouldn't have raised anywhere near the amount we did if it wasn't for
Mick's extremely effective mafiaesque fund raising techniques.
I would also like to thank Roger, Rachael, and Kevin for their
work in the canteen on Sunday and every race night. I think that our
canteen provides the best food at any race meeting - they do a killer
meat pie! And how good was that all day breakfast?
Check back here for an update next week.
See ya all on Wednesday night.
Andy Bakin.
12th March Update
We held another raffle last night which raised a further
£54.00 for Marie Curie. That brings the grand total to
£654.00. A cheque
will be presented to a Marie Curie representative.
